Debra Trueman So far, I’ve read Two by Two (not a big fan), and Britt Marie Was Here (If I never read another book, I’d die happy having read this . . . twice). Now I’m reading John Grisham - The Associate; and I’ve got Fannie Flagg – Can’t Wait to Get to Heaven, Margaret Atwood – The Handmaid’s Tale, and Paula Hawkins – Into the Water, on my bedside table. Plus, whatever my book club decides to read. Should be a great summer!
Debra Trueman Family Counsel is a follow-up to Advice of Counsel, which was inspired by my background as a paralegal and my lifelong dealings with attorneys.
Debra Trueman I just published Family Counsel on Kindle this week, and I'm putting the final touches on the paperback version. I'm thinking my next book will be about a character from my book Back on Solid Ground - Niki Lautrec's brother Eli Lautrec.
Debra Trueman My advice for aspiring writers is to just keep doing what you love, whether that means writing poems, songs, articles, short stories, novels – whatever. And finish what you start. Whether it takes a day, a month or a year, it’s such a great feeling of accomplishment having completed a writing project.
Debra Trueman When I’m in the zone, the story just comes on its own. I let the characters take over and say and do what they want. Unfortunately, sometimes it’s just not there. For me, the best way to deal with writer’s block is to just keep writing, even if I have to consciously force every word out onto the page. Sometimes, those forced parts of the story end up fine; other times, I have to go back and revise when I’m back in the zone. But that’s okay. The important thing is to push through writer’s block and just keep on writing.
