Author, Paralegal & Animal Advocate. Or maybe the other way around. The first time I was labeled an animal activist, I cringed. Now, I wear the badge proudly, knowing that it was the activists of this world that gained women the right to vote.

Now I’m reading John Grisham - The Associate; and I’ve got Fannie Flagg – Can’t Wait to Get to Heaven, Margaret Atwood – The Handmaid’s Tale, and Paula Hawkins – Into the Water, on my bedside table. Plus, whatever my book club decides to read. Should be a great summer! (less)

Unfortunately, sometimes it’s just not there. For me, the best way to deal with writer’s block is to just keep writing, even if I have to consciously force every word out onto the page. Sometimes, those forced parts of the story end up fine; other times, I have to go back and revise when I’m back in the zone. But that’s okay. The important thing is to push through writer’s block and just keep on writing.(less)

Living with Urban Wildlife

Living with the wildlife in Hollywood Park is such a joy, but sometimes it has its drawbacks. Two summers ago, the Hollywood Park Humane Society started receiving calls from residents about a buck with “something” entangled in his antlers. Living with urban deer, we see bucks wearing various forms of headgear - landscape netting, brush & limbs, Christmas lights – and the typical course of action i Read more of this blog post »

“The four men were in the kitchen laughing over breakfast when the door slammed open with such force that it knocked a picture off the wall. In unison, they jumped to their feet, not knowing what had hit them.

“What?! It wasn’t enough for you to shoot me and kidnap me, so you had to go and butcher my hair? IS THAT IT?” she yelled at the top of her lungs.”
Debra Trueman, Back on Solid Ground

“What? You’re just going to stand there and watch me?” she snapped at him.

“You’re not very nice,” he stated, taking a lesson from his brother.

“I’m not nice? You’re the one who busted into a bank and blew a man’s hand to kingdom come!” she said. “You shot me, you kidnapped me, you cut off my hair. I’ve got a bruise in the shape of your handprint on my upper arm. But I’m not a nice person?” she fumed. “Tell me, which of the items on that list would inspire me to be nice to you?” Stacy had worked herself into such a rage that she couldn’t stop. “I swear, I’d love to beat the crap out of you!”
