I was actually working on three separate short stories with thoughts of doing another short story collection to follow up "All the Lights That Have Shone". I liked them all, but they seemed to be covering a lot of the same themes and ideas and they all seemed very linear, which wasn't inspiring me. I was about (what I imagined) halfway through a story called "Hope's Ghost" and it got nuked.
I was deeply annoyed by losing the progress. After sulking a day or two I started to re-write it from memory. What I found was the other stories kept bleeding in to my memory of that story which got me wondering what would happen if those stories all happened in the same universe.
That idea evolved over time and eventually set the framework for what would become "This Languid Earth".

I'm not sure I'm inspired to write, it's more of a compulsion. I've got a million little ideas, thoughts, memories, conspiracies and odd whispers bouncing around in my head and at some point they kind of spill out onto paper. I've tried quitting a few times, but it's not something I can walk away from because that point of view and clutter is always there. Although if someone knows of a good medication for that, I'm all ears...

I've got a few things going on. Rick Watson, a wonderful poet from North Dakota, has a few projects that I've been helping him edit which has been fun. I've got a couple of personal things in the works. I never know which projects will get done first, but one is a satirical dystopic sorta thing. The second is a memoir about finding my family.
