Ronald A. Geobey Book 2 of Kiranis has a long developmental history, some of which I'll explore in my next author video for its release. There are themes of death and consciousness, the point of living...it has much darker undertones than Gods of Kiranis. It has so many things going on in it that it's hard to talk about 'the idea' for it. Keep an eye out for the author video on the publishers' website.
Ronald A. Geobey It can be anything really - from music (orchestral soundtracks and heavy metal, mostly) to movies and TV shows. I'm rewatching Fringe at the moment, and I'm realising how much I was inspired my that. Inspiration is strange - you don't have to be aware of it for it to be working. But one 'tradition' of mine is open the file I'm working on and put the Braveheart soundtrack on. That opening track is like a switch for me - it says 'you're writing now. Take a deep breath and let's go.'
Ronald A. Geobey Write. Write. Write. As much as you can, as often as you can. I see questions in writers' groups where writers ask how they'll become successful, and many of them haven't even finished their book! In what other profession would you think you could be successful without putting in the work and improving upon yourself over and over again. My philosophy is that my next book should be better than the last. I wouldn't want people to read most of the stuff I've written over the years. I was just warming up.
Ronald A. Geobey Escaping into another world, whether it's another version of this one; an alien world; or an entire universe. But the most rewarding thing is when the story takes you away from your plans and surprises you with its own outcomes. It's almost enough to make one believe in a higher power. Almost. ;)
Ronald A. Geobey I'm working on Book 3 of Kiranis, and I'm dealing with an Empress who won't stick to the script, and a 'prophet' who thinks it's fun to taunt the gods.
Ronald A. Geobey I write about it, maybe starting with something as simple as 'I don't feel like writing today. It's like there's just nothing in my head'. Before I know it, the physical act of writing has me back in the saddle. My advice - be as descriptive and reflective about your 'block' as you can. Tell yourself what you're feeling. You'll find that you're not as blocked as you think.
