Louise Rotondo Horror isn't my genre, but here goes:

I was brought out of my dream by soft footfalls on the carpet followed by a soft sigh and the mattress beside me depressing as someone sat down. The realisation that I'd gone to bed alone brought me startlingly awake, my heart racing as my eyes flew open to see nothing.
Louise Rotondo That's a hard decision to only choose one, but I think it would have to be Tolkien's world in Lord of the Rings, but C.S. Lewis's Narnia would be a close second. As to what I'd do, discovering the Elvish kingdom would be my first choice.
Louise Rotondo I enjoy light and funny summer reading and my go to is Jana De Leon's Swamp Team. Those books have just the right blend of mystery, comedy and romance and the pace is great.
Louise Rotondo This is a fabulous question and after much thought, it isn't a conventional style mystery. The thing that has puzzled me over the years is why I seem to be invisible in the workplace despite loads of experience, education and training. It would be a fabulous plot, someone overlooked for many years, to free up the space for that person to be eventually given a one in a million opportunity. Bit of a caterpillar/butterfly story :)
Louise Rotondo I don't write the chapters of my novels in order, so if I get blocked on one chapter, I move to another and eventually an idea will come to me and I will go back and pick up the one that I got stuck on. I also have a few novels going at once. That way if I get really stuck on one, I move temporarily to another and keep working and eventually the writer's block will pass.
Louise Rotondo When a reader contacts you to let you know that your book has touched them deeply. There is nothing that is quite like that feeling.
Louise Rotondo Set aside some time everyday, preferably the same time each day, at least Monday to Friday and create a writing habit. When you feel like you are bogged in the story, which seems to happen to me between the half way and three quarters points, and you feel that you will never be able to finish it, don't give up. If you keep adding to it bit by bit, eventually it all comes together.
Louise Rotondo My next book to be published is a light hearted and funny read. I had been working for the last few years on the same characters in a series, which overlapped with another series and I felt the need to step outside of both lots of books and write something different, which I have now done. It's nearly finished but doesn't have a title yet!
Louise Rotondo Usually it's a visual trigger. In the last case a photo of ruins of a hut in Australia's Snowy Mountains started the thought process and then I get really keen to tell the story. Same thing happened in South Australia with an old farm house. Other times somebody will mention an idea and before I know it my mind has created a whole fantasy world around it and I will start to put down ideas and story lines.
Louise Rotondo The most recent idea for a novel came a week ago after spending six days hiking in Australia's snowy mountains. The countryside is beautiful, if unforgiving. Saw a photo of the ruins of a hut not far from where we were and decided to weave a fictional story around the little bit of information that exists regarding the hut.
