I would go to the Land, track down Thomas Covenant, and tell him to accept the dream as real. After all, it was infinitely better than the so called reality he had left behind.

She entered and pressed the button up to the thirteenth floor.
The doors closed and the elevator fell so fast she found herself screaming in zero gravity.

"The Overstory" by Richard Powers
"The Freedom Artist" by Ben Okri
"A Key to Open Your Heart: The Path of the Energetic Mesa" by Inge Teunissen
And for now, that's it. I'm a slow reader.

"The In Between" started as a post on my Facebook group "108 Words a Day". Well, it didn't stop at 108, at 1080 or even at 10800. It just kept on going.
The initial idea (the stimulus) was that I keenly wanted to write about a man arriving in a place where he had no connections or friends, where he was a complete stranger.
As it turned out, the story wasn't really about him.

Being in the zone.
When the muse or inspiration or whatever-you-want-to-call-it comes, the rush of energy and excitement is a quickening the likes of which I have not experienced, not even in my younger drug-partaking days.
And it is perfectly natural - without side-effects or paranoia.

I'm working on a new piece called "The In Between".
I think it's a novel, but it might just turn out to be a novella or a series.
The reason that I'm not sure is that I'm writing on-the-fly, without a plot, a parachute or a safety net.
I'm 25,000 words in in just 20 days, and absolutely loving it.

There are only two things that matter.
The first is that you read, a lot. That will teach you what you like and just as importantly what you don't like.
Write every day. Don't wait for inspiration to write. When inspiration does come, be at your desk/laptop/journal ready to pounce on her before she gets away.
Everything else is optional, but these two points are not.

I don't wait for it. Whether I feel inspired or not, my job is to sit in front of the computer and start writing. Even if I'm writing shit. At some point inspiration will come simply because I'm there, on the job, writing.
I also use music. I have a huge playlist of writing music that covers pretty much every mood spectrum under the sun. My current favourite is Loscil - listen to him on YouTube.

I don't worry about it. If I can't move forward with a piece of writing I'm happy to let it go fallow for a while and focus on something else.
I'm not sure that writer's block is even a real thing. For me when I'm feeling blocked it's usually because I'm either trying to fit a round peg in a square hole or because I'm attached to a piece of writing and am resisting culling it. In either case the solution is self-evident.
