Stacey Hatton I'm writing a kid's musical at the moment, but plan to finish a humor/parenting book in 2016. Of course I'm prone to distraction; and since every year I say I'll finish it, look out for it in your local bookstore 2043!
Stacey Hatton Go big or go home. If you think you can do it, go for it! I find the bolder I am, people are shocked and take notice. Also, have a notepad with you always. Nothing worse than having an idea, not jotting it down, and forgetting it. I write down every silly thing I see or create. I have lists in the car, on my phone, in the shower, and in the bathroom. I'm a sticky note hoarder, but proud of it! Not all of them make the final draft, but that will help with writer's block too.
Stacey Hatton Caffeine. Oh, and a full night's sleep! Truly if I have enough of these two, my brain motor keeps me writing. It seems every time I've been blocked it's because I'm tired or sick and then I can't find the funny. As a humorist, my goofball eyeballs are always seeking out my next story. I don't know if I'm drawn to crazy or if crazy seeks me out, but if I'm paying attention, so much material is always around the corner - especially in discount stores or on soccer fields.
Stacey Hatton There are so many things about being a writer that really floats my barge. The first is you don't have to shower, wear pants or a bra while doing your work. Some of my best stories have been written in the shower. I'm also able to tote my kiddos around the free world whenever they need me. Plus, if the pay was great, I'd tell everyone to join their local "coupon-clipping-thrift-store-shopping-writer's-guild." This job is not for the feint of low checkbook balances.
Stacey Hatton My life is a crazy series of events. I'm not sure if weird things, people and situations are drawn to me, therefore, I write about them; or if my eye for "crazy" stories, is always open, constantly searching for oddities and laughs. Probably a combination of the two is how I find my inspiration...that, and the fact that all people are terribly flawed and it makes me giggle.
