I don't really believe there is any such thing as "writers' block." I've always kept journals, so I'm never short of ideas. I always carry around a small notebook with me to jot down ideas as they pop into my head. These are devices that I fall back on when the well threatens to run dry.

The joy of seeing your ideas and expression come to fruition. The financial rewards do not really matter. It's the pleasure of seeing your thoughts and ideas on paper [or in eBook these days!] and having people provide feedback on how much your book has meant to them.

I don't think that there is any one formula for writing. I can only suggest that good writing stems from reading good fiction, reading biographies and how other writers practice their art, observation of human nature, keeping journals (essential), and applying discipline to the writing habit. Writing is like any other profession: it takes discipline and dedication. There is, in my opinion, no such thing as "waiting for the muse."

I'm working on a collection of short stories entitled DOWN INDEPENDENCE BOULEVARD. Some of these stories have already appeared in literary magazines. The setting for these stories is in British Guiana [now Guyana] and Canada. I might locate a couple in the US though.

I've always wanted to write and have written something or the other from my earliest years. My inspiration comes from reading, writing journals, observations, being a keen listener, history and experience. I'm constantly asking: What if?

The idea for my latest book JUNTA has been lying around at the back of my brain for quite a number of years. It stemmed from research I've done over the years on the power of the military and military coups. There has been one coup in an British colony in the WI -in Grenada. This book has very little resemblance to that, though.
