Cheryl R. Lane The book I'm working on right now is Sunrise Kisses, the second book for my Starlight series. I originally was only going to write one book, Starlight, and that was it. However, somewhere along the way, before I was completely finished with the first book, I realized that it could be fun to keep going with the same characters and add some new ones and new situations. I am adding a main character to this one who is struggling with breast cancer and for the first time in her life, finds true love. My mother had breast cancer, and so this is an extra special story line to me.
Cheryl R. Lane When I start thinking about the next chapter(s) coming up next for a book I'm working on, I just start thinking about the characters and conversations I want them to have. I think about what they would do in this situation or that, and how they would react. Also I am always thinking about how it gets me to the end of my story and my main goals for the ending.
Cheryl R. Lane Write about anything you feel inspired about or have passion for. You have to be interested in what you're writing about to stay motivated to finish it. Have at least one person you trust to read your work and give you advice and pointers on both the story line as well as help with the proofreading.
Cheryl R. Lane The best thing to me about being a writer is just being able to make up stories and conflicts and see what I want my characters to do and say. I never know exactly where my story will go in the middle - ideas sometimes come mid-sentence and I usually just go with it. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I do usually know how it will end, though, when I begin a book. I think I enjoy making conversations between characters the most. I enjoy wondering what this person would say, what would their reaction be. It's a fun process.
Cheryl R. Lane I'm currently working on book two in the Starlight series, which is called Sunrise Kisses. It continues the story of Luke and Jen, and Cassie and Skyler, with the addition of some other characters, including Scarlett. Scarlett has the misfortune of finding out she has terminal cancer and tries to figure out how her young son will be taken care of when she is gone. She meets a dark, handsome man named Jackson who helps her sort through her feelings and taking care of her and her son at their new beach house. She starts developing feelings for him and wonders if he just might be the love of her life.
Cheryl R. Lane There are two sure-fired ways for me to get inspired to write. The first is to visit a historical site and take a tour. There's always an interesting story associated with each place and it gets my creative juices flowing. The second thing I do to get inspired is go for a walk and/or run. Exercise like this always seems to help me think better. I always have my phone with me so that I can type out ideas I get.
