Jack D. Ace Hi Aisha, that’s a great question—and honestly, the answer is that the story usually comes first, not the inspiration.
I almost always have something in mind. A fragment. An image. A feeling. Sometimes it’s a classic horror motif twisted just slightly out of shape, sometimes it’s something I haven’t seen done before. With Ed Gein’s Car, for example, it started with that simple thought: what if there’s still a story hidden in something no one ever looked at closely enough?
I’m drawn to the spaces where horror already exists—in history, in rumor, in the things people whisper about but never fully explore. From there, the story builds itself. I just follow it and push it as far as it’s willing to go.
Best regards, Jack
