Don Rich Hi Cynara! The next book in the Coastal Adventures series (Mallard Cove) will probably be Coastal Plains, and it should come out early next year. At least, that's the working title and has a 50/50 chance of being the final choice.

But that won't be the next book that I release. I'm working on a new series called the Mobjack Mystery series, which takes place across the Chesapeake around the Mobjack Bay area. I'm writing a short story to introduce the series called Mobjack Creek, which I'll be sending out for free to all the members of my Reader's Group in a couple of months. If you aren't signed up, you can do so on my website, www.donrichbooks.com . That book will be followed up by the first book in that series, which will be called Mobjack Gamble. I'll follow that one with Coastal Plains.

Thanks for the question, and I hope you'll like what's ahead!

Don Rich I've included several mysteries from my own life in my books. I could tell you which ones, but I hate spoilers!
Don Rich Good Morning, Karen! Yes, Coastal Cheats is the best starting point. I took my first series (Chesapeake Adventure Series) and boiled it down to this one book. It gives the backstory of and foundation to the Coastal Series. Most have at least some flying included, and of course all involve boats.

I hope you like Coastal Cheats, I'd be very interested in knowing what you think of it!

Don
Don Rich Hi Stacy, and thank you for your question!

Funny you should ask, because I'm in the middle of rewriting and condensing those right now into a 3 book series that will be true prequels to the Coastal series. Then the original Chesapeake books will be removed from the market later this year and replaced by the 3 new ones over a two week period. In their descriptions they'll have a disclaimer for those who've already read them about how they are based on the Chesapeake series and if you've already read those, you really don't need to read these, you've already gotten the gist of the stories.

But if you're a fan of that series, you need to know that the Bayside Bunch aren't locked away in a drawer forever. They might even show up in the next book (hint, hint), Coastal Caper, which will be out sometime this fall, though it's 2020, so I hate to make predictions of exactly when.

So, WHY go back and rewrite what's already been done? Because at the time I wrote those, I had no real concept of the Coastal Series, other than I wanted to expand on Murph and Lindsay's story. Plus, I think (hope) that my writing has improved over these past few years, and I think (hope) I can do a better job than I did back then. I had no idea how popular the first few books of the Coastal series would become (the first 3 outsell the 5 of the Chesapeake series 4 to 1).

Now that I know where Murph, Dawn, Casey, and Lindsay are headed, I can do a better job of setting the stage for them in the prequels. Plus, I originally treated Lindsay as being a bit dense, and as you can see in the Coastal series, she's really not. She's kind of the glue that quietly (at times not so quietly) holds Mallard Cove together. She listens, she reasons, and she's willing to put up with Murph. Or, is she? No spoilers, read the new one, Coastal Cats!

And I think I didn't do as good a job as I should've explaining the dynamics of Casey, Sally, and Dawn's relationship in both Chesapeake Treasure and Chesapeake Rules. So the replacement book for those two, Coastal Changes, is boiling it all down and showing more of what everyone's personal (hidden) angles are. Plus, I took a lot of heat for making Casey look like a wimp in Rules. He's not, so I did a bad job portraying him, and I'm fixing that.

Probably more than you bargained for of an answer, but as you can see, I haven't forgotten them!

Thanks-
Don
Don Rich Hey Len! Thanks for pointing that out, I made sure to have them add it a few minutes ago so, it's live now.

I'm really glad that you enjoyed the book, I thought it was a great premise. Baloney has a lot of depth that he doesn't like people to see, and it was fun being able to explore his character a little further. And I enjoy writing from Marlin's point of view, I think I'll do that some more as Mallard Cove continues to evolve. He makes a good narrator for the story.

Thanks again for the shout out! Sorry I dropped the ball.
Don Rich Only when it's a short(s) story. LOL!
Don Rich The upcoming new ones from John H. Cunningham, Wayne Stinnett, and Jack Hardin.
Don Rich Mallard Cove on Virginia's Eastern Shore. I'd run up a huge bar tab and stick Marlin Denton with it. He owes me...
Don Rich No. I can't write a two sentence anything, I'm too long winded. Besides, horror isn't my gig.
Don Rich The characters inspire me to write. I'm the only one who can tell their story, and it need to get told, right? This is the part where you say 'yes'.
Don Rich My 4th installment of the Coastal series called "Coastal Tuna". This one pulls you in different directions and as hard as a freight train, just like a tuna!
Don Rich Write if you enjoy it. If what you write makes money, that's great. If it's a chore, but it makes money, then it's just another job.

Write a series, and write it for yourself. If you like it, chances are that someone else will, too.
Don Rich Spending time with the characters.
Don Rich I write when the story wants to come out. When it doesn't, I don't try to push it because it shows in the final product. So, I go off and do something else for a while until it feels like I need to go back to the keyboard.
