Hi! Glad you took the time to read about me, though my Coastal Adventure Series is really much more interesting. But hey, click my "Follow" button and see what kind of trouble I get into. It beats reading the newspaper! (I try to stay out of those these days...)

I was born in Palm Beach County, Florida, and escaped in Y2K, 40 years and 1.1 million new neighbors later. I hate crowds, and by then the lines at the boat ramps on the weekends were hell... Anyway, in my early twenties I crewed on sportfishing boats. I started flying when I was old enough to see over the instrument panel and got my license at 16. I've logged time in over two dozen types of aircraft. I got my start as a real estate investor in my latter 20's. I've owned retail store

Hi Stacy, and thank you for your question!

Funny you should ask, because I'm in the middle of rewriting and condensing those right now into a 3 book series that will be true prequels to the Coastal series. Then the original Chesapeake books will be removed from the market later this year and replaced by the 3 new ones over a two week period. In their descriptions they'll have a disclaimer for those who've already read them about how they are based on the Chesapeake series and if you've already read those, you really don't need to read these, you've already gotten the gist of the stories.

But if you're a fan of that series, you need to know that the Bayside Bunch aren't locked away in a drawer forever. They might even show up in the next book (hint, hint), Coastal Caper, which will be out sometime this fall, though it's 2020, so I hate to make predictions of exactly when.

So, WHY go back and rewrite what's already been done? Because at the time I wrote those, I had no real concept of the Coastal Series, other than I wanted to expand on Murph and Lindsay's story. Plus, I think (hope) that my writing has improved over these past few years, and I think (hope) I can do a better job than I did back then. I had no idea how popular the first few books of the Coastal series would become (the first 3 outsell the 5 of the Chesapeake series 4 to 1).

Now that I know where Murph, Dawn, Casey, and Lindsay are headed, I can do a better job of setting the stage for them in the prequels. Plus, I originally treated Lindsay as being a bit dense, and as you can see in the Coastal series, she's really not. She's kind of the glue that quietly (at times not so quietly) holds Mallard Cove together. She listens, she reasons, and she's willing to put up with Murph. Or, is she? No spoilers, read the new one, Coastal Cats!

And I think I didn't do as good a job as I should've explaining the dynamics of Casey, Sally, and Dawn's relationship in both Chesapeake Treasure and Chesapeake Rules. So the replacement book for those two, Coastal Changes, is boiling it all down and showing more of what everyone's personal (hidden) angles are. Plus, I took a lot of heat for making Casey look like a wimp in Rules. He's not, so I did a bad job portraying him, and I'm fixing that.

Probably more than you bargained for of an answer, but as you can see, I haven't forgotten them!

Thanks-

Yes, Coastal Cheats is the best starting point. I took my first series (Chesapeake Adventure Series) and boiled it down to this one book. It gives the backstory of and foundation to the Coastal Series. Most have at least some flying included, and of course all involve boats.

I hope you like Coastal Cheats, I'd be very interested in knowing what you think of it!

I'm Reading Less, and Writing More!

In his book, "On Writing," Stephen King says that a writer should be a voracious reader as well. There's something to that, and not just because King said it. You can't read a book without learning something, and if you're a writer, that bit of acquired knowledge will likely make its way into one of your own books. I'm not talking about plagiarism, but inspiration. And as much as I LOVE reading, I Read more of this blog post »

Classic Ballard & Bosch

This one had all the usual Connelly crumb trail bits; the ones that can lead you to the proper conclusion, but don’t give it away. He makes you work for it, and that’s the fun part!
