Carla Sarett Oh, just noticed your question. Dickens, P.G. Wodehouse, Muriel Spark, Waugh, Willa Cather, and Rudyard Kipling spring to mind. The great Yiddish writers. They're probably all influences.
Carla Sarett Not at all.

I wanted to be an actress when I was younger (and trained for that, fairly seriously at American Academy of Dramatic Arts.)

And later on, there were other dreams -- but none of them involved writing short fiction. So my writing journey started when my mother died -- and I tried (unsuccessfully) to keep a journal. What emerged was fiction, and that became a passion. So I'd say that writing found me, not the other way around.
Carla Sarett Scott, this isn't the greatest place to post a request-- in fact, this is the first time I've seen it. Send me a private message through Goodreads, with link to book; and I'll see if it fits into my blog readership. Thanks!
Carla Sarett Mostly it's stories that I overhear...in the supermarket, on the train, everywhere I go, I hear stories.
Carla Sarett Editing a novel that I hope to release in a few months!
Carla Sarett Freedom to imagine anything.
Carla Sarett Write for the joy of it, and submit often.
