Not at all.

I wanted to be an actress when I was younger (and trained for that, fairly seriously at American Academy of Dramatic Arts.)

And later on, there were other dreams -- but none of them involved writing short fiction. So my writing journey started when my mother died -- and I tried (unsuccessfully) to keep a journal. What emerged was fiction, and that became a passion. So I'd say that writing found me, not the other way around. (less)

My Family Was Like a Russian Novel: poem— out from Plan B

Excited to announce my new poetry chapbook is out from Plan B Press.  The book has been shortlisted in several competitions.  These poems emerged from my re-reading of the novels of Dostoyevsky during the lockdown— and reognizing so many of the characters in my own family.  (“The Idiot” was my dad’s favorite novel…so it figures.)

Wonderful translation— has the majestic cadence I like in Homer, and is very musical. Of the translations I’ve read (Wilson, Fagles, Fitzgerald), Mendelsohn’s might be my favorite. And the introduction is superb.
