Delia Remington I love owning my days. What I choose to do each day, what I write, what happens in the stories, who the characters are and what they become...all of that is entirely up to me. I have all the freedom to create whatever pleases me. That is thrilling.
Delia Remington Don't "aspire." If you want to be a writer, write. I could "aspire" to be a gymnast, but if I never practice and master the skills I need in order to accomplish it, all that wishing is a waste. Don't "aspire." Just do.
Delia Remington I'm editing Out For Blood, the second book in The Blood Royal Saga.
Delia Remington Honestly, the only way out is through. Starting is the hardest part, and I think what we call "writer's block" is really either anxiety that what we write won't be good enough or a lack of focus and discipline. Recognizing what is getting in the way is a first step. Meditation can help to put those anxious thoughts aside and get you back on track. Also, setting a routine that establishes the habit of writing makes all the difference. Maybe you clean off your desk or you listen to a specific piece of music for five minutes before you start writing. Whatever it is that cues your mind that it's time to get to work. And if you're struggling, then it's time to set those rituals or routines to give yourself those good habits. That's what works for me. There's nothing magical about it.
