Biography
When Delia was five years old, her teacher asked what she wanted to be when she grew up, and she replied, "I want to be a writer and tell stories."

That desire never changed, though it's manifested in many different ways throughout the years.

In addition to her current fiction projects, Delia has been a professional technical writer, editor, and journalist, gotten a Masters degree in English Literature, taught writing at all levels from elementary to the college level, worked as a librarian, and been a fanfiction writer.

Delia lives in a big old house in a small town near the Missouri River with her Scottish terrier, Layla, and she spends her days surrounded by books and good friends.

Starting is the hardest part, and I think what we call "writer's block" is really either anxiety that what we write won't be good enough or a lack of focus and discipline. Recognizing what is getting in the way is a first step. Meditation can help to put those anxious thoughts aside and get you back on track. Also, setting a routine that establishes the habit of writing makes all the difference. Maybe you clean off your desk or you listen to a specific piece of music for five minutes before you start writing. Whatever it is that cues your mind that it's time to get to work. And if you're struggling, then it's time to set those rituals or routines to give yourself those good habits. That's what works for me. There's nothing magical about it.(less)

What I choose to do each day, what I write, what happens in the stories, who the characters are and what they become...all of that is entirely up to me. I have all the freedom to create whatever pleases me. That is thrilling. (less)

What Can I Do When Everything is On Fire?

I’ve been feeling frustrated, discouraged, angry, sad, and scared about the state of the world. It’s easy for those emotions to overwhelm me if I let them. I’m not rich or powerful. I’m not famous. I don’t have a huge online platform.

But that doesn’t mean there’s nothing I can do. I can do my part, and hopefully others are doing the same. A collective push for change can push the scales with time
