Double Play started with a dream. The book I am currently writing began after I had already written a book about the main character. I then asked myself, How did she get into this predicament? And a whole story began to bloom that needed to be told as well.

Many times ideas for my books come from dreams. I'll wake up and think, Hmm. That would make a good story. So I write down the fragment I remember and then start creating from there. Also, when I read a really good book, it inspires me to keep working at my own writing.

I am currently working on a series of YA fantasy books which take place in the magical alternative worlds of The Sixth Power and Double Play. The first book is about a girl with special Gifts, a ghost, and a rock star.

Don't give up. Believe in yourself, and keep writing. There are stories within you that no one else can tell but you. You will have to work hard to make it happen, but if you are willing to put in the effort and learn how to write well, it will be worth it.

The best part of being a writer is writing the first draft of a story. It is like being on a roller coaster ride or living an adventure story. I start with an idea, and then I start typing. As the story progresses, people pop out in unexpected places, and events just blossom into existence. I have no idea what’s going to happen. It’s very exciting. Later on, I’ll start thinking ahead about where the story is going, and what is going to happen. But even then, unexpected things can and do happen. Then comes the rewriting part, which is a lot of work, but still rewarding. There's a real glow of satisfaction that comes when you type 'The End'- and you are really finished.

The best way to get over writer's block is to go do something else. Go out and watch people, make cookies, or do something completely different from normal so the creative juices start flowing again. Then schedule time each day to write something - anything. Sit down and do it. It also helps to have someone to talk over ideas with.

Double Play began as a dream: I was in a giant stadium, digging in the sand, and I found part of a giant chess piece – a green face. Later, I dug up the head of a giant green horse, or the chess knight. When I woke up, I was so intrigued that I wrote the dream down and asked myself, “What happens next?” Then I began to write. NaNoWriMo was coming up, so I wrote like mad and finished the first draft in a month. After that it was about a year of rewriting and editing before I was finished.
