Later, I dug up the head of a giant green horse, or the chess knight. When I woke up, I was so intrigued that I wrote the dream down and asked myself, “What happens next?” Then I began to write. NaNoWriMo was coming up, so I wrote like mad and finished the first draft in a month. After that it was about a year of rewriting and editing before I was finished.(less)

Go out and watch people, make cookies, or do something completely different from normal so the creative juices start flowing again. Then schedule time each day to write something - anything. Sit down and do it. It also helps to have someone to talk over ideas with.(less)

Father’s Day

This weekend, the Smith family gathered to celebrate the birthday and Father’s Day of Gardiner Smith. I’d like to pay tribute to this wonderful man who made such a difference in my life.
When Gardiner and Fay were a young couple with two small children, they felt inspired to move to a village in central Alberta, where he began to teach science at the local school.  One day the teachers had a st

Charles M. Schulz
“I think I've discovered the secret of life -- you just hang around until you get used to it.”
Charles Schultz

C.S. Lewis
“A children's story that can only be enjoyed by children is not a good children's story in the slightest.”
C.S. Lewis

Madeleine L'Engle
“You have to write the book that wants to be written. And if the book will be too difficult for grown-ups, then you write it for children.”
Madeleine L'Engle

Albert Einstein
“If you want your children to be intelligent, read them fairy tales. If you want them to be more intelligent, read them more fairy tales.”
Albert Einstein

Ray Bradbury
“If you want to write, if you want to create, you must be the most sublime fool that God ever turned out and sent rambling. You must write every single day of your life. You must read dreadful dumb books and glorious books, and let them wrestle in beautiful fights inside your head, vulgar one moment, brilliant the next. You must lurk in libraries and climb the stacks like ladders to sniff books like perfumes and wear books like hats upon your crazy heads. I wish you a wrestling match with your Creative Muse that will last a lifetime. I wish craziness and foolishness and madness upon you. May you live with hysteria, and out of it make fine stories — science fiction or otherwise. Which finally means, may you be in love every day for the next 20,000 days. And out of that love, remake a world.”
Ray Bradbury
