Watching someone read what you have written and "get it!" I sat next to a person on a plane one day, and he asked if he could look at my book. He read every poem in it (it was a 6-hour flight) without saying a word. When he finished, he looked at me and told me the book had changed the way he looked at the world. Another reader told me that she keeps "Moments from the Side Yard" on her bedstand because she likes to read one poem a night and think about it. I love imagining her feeling happier before she goes to sleep!

Just write! It is so hard to get started. I like to sit at my computer and dictate for a little while to get the story, poem, idea going. Once I "talk" it out, I can get started.
Also, write from your heart. Don't try to go too big--have fun.

I am working on three books.
1. Another educational leadership book. The topic is still under wraps!
2. A novel that is set in the late '60's and journals a young woman's adventures through the next two decades.
3. A second edition of "Blooms and the Bard" set in Arizona.

My poetry is often inspired by my experiences in nature, whether that is hiking rim to rim in the Grand Canyon, riding the gondola in Stowe, VT, walking the beaches of Oahu, or just taking a day drive up the San Francisco Peaks outside of Flagstaff, AZ. It is also inspired by the way I see others interacting. I am an eternal optimist, and I want my poetry to inspire optimism in others.
My education books are inspired by my interactions with other educators and my desire to make their hard work a little easier.

The ideas in "The Instructional Coaching Handbook" came from decades of coaching teachers and administrators and wanting a source that would provide practical strategies I could look at in real-time and offer. The stories that go along are from field experiences my co-authors and I have had.
