(view spoiler)[This summer I was so busy getting my new novel The London Property Boy straight and keeping a fine eye on both editing and details, that I have to admit I read very little, except stuff. Now published I will have more time on my hands, apart from promoting sales which take up a lot of time. have a look at my newest book, you might find it interesting. (hide spoiler)]

I am not really inspired, I have gone past that great moment. I just think to myself, what is my next book going to be about? Then, I get on and write it!

It might be late at night, or during a drive to the market; but it happens! It is the first idea, and once I get past that initial introduction to a story, it begins.

I am working on a new murder mystery called the Dance of Dimitrios. It is set in Northern Greece and features DCI Mike Lambert from Europol and his assistant DS Electra Boulos. It is a cold case and involves a dead English woman, found floating in the River Ardas and mistaken for an illegal immigrant. This is due to be published over Christmas 2015.
I have also just published a play. It has been in the mincer for some years now, and I have only recently got round to premoting it through Create Space. It is called Judicial review: A Play

Of course I am, like most writers I have rather too much to say for myself at times, but usually my answers are well thought out and occasionally inspired.

The ongoing investigation in Portugal concerning the whereabouts of Madi McCann has been my main inspiration. A botched investigation by the Portuguese police, unfounded accusations that her parents were responsible for her death, and finally, the intervention of the British authorities and news media, brought the whole matter once more back into the light. Clearly a question of xenophobia, prejudice, ignorance and indifference; a turf war between the two countries authorities seems to have occurred at some point and together with a shortage of police resources, meant that the fate of Madi McCann was practically forgotten. However, a new investigation is presently under way. I also decided to take the abduction to Italy because it fitted more easily into my route through Greece, Bulgaria and finally into northern Europe. In my opinion Italy seems to have some challenging problems with their justice system – the case of Amanda Knox comes to mind – and I could see a similar problems occurring with an investigation by the State Police in Rimini, a well known Italian holiday destination.

Writers have to write, it is in our nature. Academics tell us to do one thing and the publicists and publishers another. In the and you will write what you can and these pundits will craftily change and modify the final product into what they consider to be a salable book- that's life. But you must always speak your truth, to believe in yourself as a unique person and never ever give up. In the end you will succeed.

I think most writers will tell you that writing is a lonely occupation, but for some of us, that is how we often like to be. Not on our own exactly, because there are far too many characters simultaneously chatting to us in our writers heads. Pulling us one way or another, they all try to fit into the story, even though we may not particularly like them or want them to be there. Yes, writers are a little odd at times, but when our day is through, it is back to normal and time for the family.

It wouldn't be true to say it never happened, whilst you are pottering about doing other things - looking out of the window, cleaning the car, or feeding the dog - you very often get back on track. Most inspiration comes via your subconscious, so go and have a nap!
