Thomas P. Wise Nance and I are writing a micro book on how to do this best. The main trick we use is to always prepare before we write. This is very important. Prepare the time by creating a setting that makes you both comfortable. This could mean writing in bed with a glass of wine (works great). Write in a place and time that reduces the stress, and be ready to give in when arguing over words. (The words can always be renegotiated later when working with your editor. Our editor is our word mediator)

We are in the process of writing a micro-book that describes how to do this best. Hopefully, the book will be out by early 2016.
Thomas P. Wise Life On Base: Quantico Cave is to be released by Koehler Books around October 2015. This book comes from experiences with growing up in a Marine Corp family. I loved life on base. Military families live a unique life and their experiences are often much different than those that grew up in what may be considered a traditional American setting. I wanted to share some of this life with everyone and at the same time share a story with those currently growing up military.
Thomas P. Wise My children are my inspiration. When they were young we loved to sit around and tell each other stories.
Thomas P. Wise Nancy, my wife and writing partner are working on several things at once. Life On Base: Quantico Cave is forthcoming around October 2015 and we are currently working on the next book in the Life On Base series with a working title of Life On Base: Quantico Ghost. We are also in the early part of writing a sequel for The Borealis Genome.
Thomas P. Wise The best thing to do is start writing about things you know. Most stories come from our experiences and the people we know, met once in life, or those we love. Start anywhere in your story that inspires you. Writing can happen front to back, back to front, or starting in the middle, and then working both ways through the story. Most importantly, find a great editor, and a couple people that are willing to be open and honest in order to gain feedback.
Thomas P. Wise I love to tell a good story. When the children were young, one of our favorite things to do was to sit next to a campfire and tell each other stories.
Thomas P. Wise I'm not sure I deal with writer's block well. I tend to have several subjects going at the same time. If I'm blocked on one subject then I will simply move on to something else, and return when I feel moved. Often, when writing a book, I'll start writing wherever I feel inspired. With The Borealis Genome I started in the middle of the book, on a subject I liked, and then worked both directions. We wrote backward and forwards through the book.
