I was first inspired by the concept of the Soldier Sons series after reading The Book Thief and learning about how the Nazis trained some SS soldiers from a very young age (like Rudy, in The Book Thief). The Soldier Sons' Sick Cites were inspired after reading The Buffalo Creek Disaster and learning about the myriad environmental disasters and mass deaths caused by greed and ignorance.

Characters inspire me to write. The idea for particular characters come to me and the plots and conflicts grow out of there (sort of like the plots and problems that all people create).

The last book in my fantasy wartime series, Soldier Sons. After all, "the ending is the most important part of the story." I hope Book 6: Assault on Reignhold does the job.

Advice my dad gave me; a writer writes. Don't let anyone tell you you're not a writer because you haven't done XYZ thing, or because you haven't published or you don't get paid. If you like to write, just write. The rest will take care of itself.

Two things; the cathartic experience and the ability to make anything possible. You have the power to make characters than can do everything and feel anything, even the things that you can't do and the things you'd rather not feel.

I like to write other stories, anything that strikes me, something that I don't (yet) have plans for. Also doing new things, exploring new places and challenging myself in new ways helps to get the creative blood flowing.
