Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Samantha Stemler I was first inspired by the concept of the Soldier Sons series after reading The Book Thief and learning about how the Nazis trained some SS soldiers from a very young age (like Rudy, in The Book Thief). The Soldier Sons' Sick Cites were inspired after reading The Buffalo Creek Disaster and learning about the myriad environmental disasters and mass deaths caused by greed and ignorance.
