Becca St. John Plow through writer's block ~ really. I sit at my computer and type about what was last written and ask which character wants to step forward, what do they want to say, what should happen next. From there, the story rushes forward. The scene will fall right into place and, in the back of my mind, I'm thinking, "wow, the book is really flowing," only to finish the scene and have to start the whole 'character conversations' again.
Becca St. John Ah, well, I'm a travelholic so that knocks out a lot of locations ... with too many I would love to return to ... so let's make this a bit more difficult to get to. Top choice: the futuristic world of Harmony from the Arcane Series by Jayne Ann Krentz. Would love that!
Becca St. John Oh, boy, that's a tough one. Maybe the characters I meet. They fill my heart. And to get the stories out. There are so many stories running around in my head they'd make me crazy if they couldn't escape.
Becca St. John Write and then write some more. Keep writing and reading and live life. All the classes in the world won't fill the well. Life does that. Life feeds you with story lines and characters and situations. Keep a diary, write short stories, play with poetry, write a book and then another. Do not stop. I threw away my first five novels and I'm not sorry I did. Learned more in that process than in years at University.
Becca St. John Oh, this one is so much fun! The third book in The Handfasting Series. This is Alyssa and Angus' story, as introduced in Seonaid. A bit of fun bickering and some scary action and ... well ... don't want to spoil it! Aiming for release in the Spring of 2016.
Becca St. John Although I would love to outline my books, it never works. A few paragraphs in and I'm already deviating from the plan. So every time I sit down to write, it's to a blank page with no ideas. I start by 'chatting' with the book, the characters, typing things like, "Where should we go from here? So-in-so is in a tough spot and we just saw who's-you-call-it doing something and ..." Pop! The scene will start running and I'll barely be able to keep up. It’s really awesome and terrifying way to write.
Becca St. John Summerton started with wondering what it would be like to be married for a reason (money, status, looks) that has nothing to do with you as a person. Caroline is married for her money. More humiliating, she was infatuated with him until she realized his only interest was her fortune. How does she deal with that? Summerton thought himself quite the catch, only to marry the one woman who doesn't want him or what he has to offer. They mystery? I may be a romantic but I'm also a huge Miss Marple fan.
