John Park This is actually quite hard to answer: degree of likeable coupledom isn't normally a criterion I think to apply to a book. Guy Gavriel Kay has produced some memorable examples (notably in his Sarantium books), and Tom and Janet from Alan Garner's Red Shift are agonisingly unforgettable, but not what I'd consider a favourite pair. In the end it comes down to a very subjective choice: Mike and Phyllis Watson (I had to look up the names), in John Wyndham's The Kraken Wakes, because they endure a lot together, learn more about each other in the process, and are still together at the end . . . and maybe because I haven't read the book since I was a teenager.
John Park Very glad you liked it; the book seems to have difficulty in finding its audience. A bit embarrassingly, since it saw print I've been feeling written out. I have a number of ideas and unfinished pieces (mostly short stories), but don't seem able to work on them. Still, words of encouragement from the audience are always welcome, and may end up making a difference. Thanks again for your interest.
