I'm thrilled you loved Bait, Lacey! My second novel HUSK is currently available (a gritty, scary look at our possible near future), although it is getting harder to get in print (the ebook is readily available though, and only $2.99 right now). Thanks for the question. There were a few different areas of research to be done for the book. I've always been fascinated with sharks, ever since I was child, so I had a good working knowledge of them to draw from. I've spent a little time in Miami and the Florida Keys and found it to be the perfect setting for the story. As for the characters themselves, I based them on people I used to work in the film and music business who were drug addicts, and the numerous junkies that live in my rundown downtown neighborhood also gave me lots of insight to that life.

Thanks for your question, Steve. Unfortunately, 'Husk' is only available as an e-book in the United Kingdom and its territories, due to the fact that Penguin UK are the publishers and North American rights have not been picked up at present (which I hope changes soon). It's an unfortunate territorial situation.
But on a better note, physical copies of the book can be ordered in the US from Amazon.com. I do hope you pick up a copy :)

It is currently unknown if or when Penguin Canada will be putting out HUSK... Penguin UK are the official publishers of the novel this time around. But they are shipping the book worldwide. You can get it from Amazon UK here:

Bait took about 8 months to write. I had a slight advantage when I started work on it, since I'd written Bait as a short story beforehand and had the central idea already in place which I expanded the story into a full length novel.

I think there are three things aspiring writers must remember above all else: Patience, Perseverance, an maintaining your sense of Purpose.

I try to have more than one project going at one time. If I'm stuck on one story, I simply move to the other. Also, I find it easy to dodge writer's block if you don't write in a linear fashion. Write the parts that are ready to be written and don't be afraid to jump around. You can write chapter 8 first, then chapter 20, then chapter 1 if you feel inclined.
