Phillip Nolte My latest book, "The Deimos Artifact," was inspired by my fascination with science fiction stories that deal with ancient artifacts. If these artifacts happen to be of an alien origin, so much the better.

I decided to try my hand...
Phillip Nolte I have been a science fiction fan for ...a lot of years. I remember attending a long string of awful science fiction movies in the 1980's. After one of them, as I exited the theater with my wife and daughter I remember saying, "They hired actors that could act and they had convincing special effects and expensive sets so why didn't they spend a couple thousand more for a decent story?!" I then uttered the fateful words, "Heck, I could write a better story than that!"

It proved to be harder than I thought...
Phillip Nolte I just published my fourth novel "The Deimos Artifact" book one of the series "Guardians of the Galactic Sentinel." I am now working on book two of the series and will select a title for it as I get further on with the project.
Phillip Nolte With apologies to "Galaxy Quest," Never give up, never surrender! Especially when writing a novel, a lot of time is going to be required. Just like making car payments over time, a little writing each day is probably the best way to proceed. I set a target of 1000 words a day and I can generally reach the target on most days and may exceed it on others. Don't worry about getting the phrasing and dialogue perfect on the first try. Get your thoughts down and move onward, there will be plenty of time for polishing later. Like I said in a different post, it is much easier to edit than it is to create.

Good luck!
Phillip Nolte Science fiction is a wide open universe. I enjoy the creation of worlds, machines and characters. I also really enjoy working with words and molding them in such a way that the pictures in my mind come to life on the page.

At least I hope they do...
Phillip Nolte I'll admit that, like most writers, I do struggle with motivation on occasion. The most effective way I've found to get past these bumps, especially when working on a novel, is go to another part of the book and do some editing. Editing is way easier to do than creating new material. I find that this method gets me back "into" the writing process and often serves to put me back into creating mode and I can continue with the project. There is so much to do when writing a book that you can always find something useful to do.
