Brett McKay Yes, I am not done with those Damage Inc. demons. I have a new novel out now called The Other Side of Elsewhere. It's a prequel, of sorts, to Damage Inc., but also a stand alone. It follows Ret, age 12, and his 2 best friends as they uncover a supernatural mystery in 1982. Email me at mckaybns@gmail.com and I'll be glad to send you an ARC. I loved your reviews of my Damage Inc. books. Thank You,
Brett McKay Just write. Don't think- just write. Push through. We all get it, and there are times I don't feel like writing and the words come out clunky and I want to stop. But, hey, push through it. You don't write your first draft perfect, so don't try to get it perfect. If you're in a boring part of your story, or it's not coming to you, remember just put words down. Get the skeleton of the story down even if it doesn't sound good. That's what editing and re-writes are for. Just type words. Just write.
Brett McKay Creating worlds and characters and watching them grow and actually start driving your story. It is my ultimate outlet. I have a constant NEED to write, and it's therapeutic for me. The creating is the fun part, and the fans feedback from reading it is the payoff. No doubt about it.
Brett McKay Just write. That's it. So many people tell me they have a great idea for a story and they want to write, and I ask them how much they have done, and they haven't even started. Just write. Write, write and write some more.
If you are writing, then I would search out every avenue you can to learn more about the craft, and some of the rules, and then once it's finished work like hell to find a publisher or an agent to help you, and learn all you can about internet marketing.
Brett McKay I real tight, suspenseful thriller involving an 13 year old daughter and her heroin addicted mother as they run from a hired hit man and the law. It's intense with both action and drama, and sheds light on this traumatic life of a mother and daughter who love each other to pieces.
Brett McKay My head is always filled with concepts. I try to come up with a great "what if" idea, branch out from there and see if it has any wings. Inspirations come from everywhere. Sometimes from a good movie or book you read, to a news story, or you meet interesting people and it stirs up ideas. Or I'm in a strange place, like I did some work in remote areas in Arkansas, and I came up with a bunch. Usually when I sit down to write a tale, I find that I utilize pieces of inspiration from everywhere, even for other story ideas, and they end up melding together. Then again, if you meditate, and listen closely, your muse will tell you what to write.
Brett McKay I always wanted to write a memoir of a time in my life when I was 11 and 12 years old growing up in the small town of Riverton, Utah. So I came up with a concept for a thriller that takes place in 1982, and was able to weave in pieces of my childhood into this fictional tale.
