now that's a good question. I'm enough of a hedonist to enjoy reading about the Regency period in Jane Austen or Georgette Heyer, but not to like the idea of flush loos being rare, no washing machines, and having to get a fire going every morning to cook. Not saying I couldn't manage, because I could. But I wouldn't want to do so .... I think I would like to visit Lovecraft's Dreamlands, where cats go when they sleep, and enjoy some kitty time.

Richard Warner's "A walk through some of the western counties of England" heads the list there, and his two books on walks through Wales. "Legends and customs of Somerset" and "Rails across America"

Hi Ahmad, we haven't spoken for a while, nice to say hello! Glad you like the blog. I'm adding to the weather data... and to the stuff about names!

Hi Catherine! I have a heap of Felicia and Robins written, one of which is waiting for me to do the cover - it's a set of short stories, covering a period between more major adventures, while they stay with Sir Godfrey. And I am writing a Jane and Caleb at the moment. I was on hiatus for ages after my mother had a stroke, and I was finding writing very difficult. I finished off a couple of started Regencies recently though - used NaNoWriMo to kickstart myself - and having gained confidence that I CAN write again, returned to Jane and Caleb. And I'm afraid the Midsummer Mysteries, which was ready bar a cover, just got forgotten...
And thank you so much for your kind words!

"Emma" is a valid title; it's by Jane Austen. I believe it is available for Kindle, and IMO is the most amusing of Miss Austen's novels, which is why I wanted to explore the worlds of 'what might happen next'.
I have not tied the "Jane" series to "Cousin Prudence" because I was undecided when I wrote "Cousin Prudence" whether it would be in the same Austenverse or whether I might, in a sequel to it, reform Frank Churchill. As it happens, the more I think about Frank, the more I'm inclined to think that killing him off was the best thing I could ever have done, and any sequel to Prudence may well mention him being murdered, or I may use Pru and Gervase as patrons for Jane and Caleb. I have a number of plot outlines and ideas waiting to be worked on, including the concept of tying "Cousin Prudence" to "Vanities and Vexations" so that Miss Austen's characters have the chance to meet in crossover....

The most recent published? It sort of grew like Topsy from a selection of plot ideas I'd noted from reading about local history, and the odd blog, and my imagination going into overdrive when seeing a beautiful building when driving past [who lived there and what were they like, the sort of questions I always daydream about...] and then the opening scene appeared in my head. Which is how it got left for over a year before my characters co-operated enough to move forward, because sometimes they co-operate and sometimes they don't.

I just get plot bunnies breeding in my head all the time... and if I don't write, the characters drive me nuts by arguing with me.

Not a lot, as my mother isn't well. I'm hoping to continue a series of linked Regency romances set around the charity pupils and teachers of a charity school, and I have an idea for a children's series involving time travel and a mad inventer uncle.

Keep reading as well as writing. Never throw anything away. It might not be brilliant but ten years down the line, you'll find it, have a good laugh, and then think 'but if I used some of that and...'

going to the office in the pergola with the scent of honeysuckle and roses in the summer or going to the office in a duvet in front of the fire in winter.

I write something silly and frivolous like a sonnet about dinosaurs in the style of Tennyson... unless block is caused by exhaustion in which case the only thing to do is to sit it out.
