Have realistic expectations. I wrote my cook book for me. I simply got tired of trying to find recipes that had been scribbled on everything from coasters to napkins to spiral notebook pages. The fact that a few people have found it interesting and useful enough to buy it is an unexpected bonus.

Well I waited until I retired to write my first book because I wanted to be able to focus on the work and not worry about living expenses. So for me, the best thing about being a writer is also being retired and having the freedom to do what I want to do when I want to do it.
