Civil War Rations: Sloosh

I have always enjoyed the study of history and one of my favorite fields of study is the American Civil War. Food history is also an interest of mine and when I recently watched the rebroadcast of Ken Burns' excellent film "The Civil War" I rediscovered my interest in the food eaten by the combatants. This happened when Dr. Shelby Foote briefly mentioned a Confederate staple known as "Sloosh."
