A.L. Mengel I was inspired for the story after the death of my aunt. She was an avid reader of my science fiction, and shortly after her death, the plot for both volumes of Colonia came to me over the course of several weeks like a tidal wave.
A.L. Mengel I use the #Writestorm method. It really helps me, as I am a quite busy person who writes and manages a full-time job in addition to life's list of responsibilities!
A.L. Mengel I am working on an epic conclusion to my science fiction series "The Vega Chronicles". The project is titled "Colonia" and will be released as two novel-length volumes. Both volumes are planned to release same day!
A.L. Mengel Keep at it. I was an aspiring writer for over a decade before I finally saw my first novel, Ashes, in print. It takes time. A lot of time. And a lot of practice writing. I found, myself, that I needed more life experience before I took on the deeper, more philosophical works that I have released more recently. Keep at it! Developing a writing career is a very slow burn, but it endures. Patience and persistence are your best, best friends.
A.L. Mengel I'd say the best thing about being a writer is that there are no rules. I take a pretty non-traditional approach when it comes to my storytelling. Readers have told me that I have a unique voice; a different way of telling a story. But there really isn't any right or wrong way. That's what I love about writing. It's really about being creative, and who we are as a person.
A.L. Mengel Writer's block is a tough one. Sometimes the words just don't flow. On those days, I do one of a number of things: depending on how many writing projects I have going on at once, I might take a look at a different story. Or I might do some research. Research always gets me back in the writing mood. If those things don't work, I stop writing altogether and do something else. I go out and experience life. I socialize, interact with others, and then...before I know it...the words start to flow again.
