I guess being part of the Harry Potter world would be my first choice. In theory I'd love to be a plucky character in outlander who helped the resistance, but I think dealing with the hardships of living in that time would be too much. I think absolutely I would love to be part of the Night Circus. I'd read tarot cards and be on the peripherals, enjoying the world!

What a great idea! I'm afraid Ruby has come to an end, but I'd love to write another book in the series one day, perhaps about Ruby's adventures in between, or Esme's journey later on. Thanks so much for your kind words!

Doing what you love! Creating characters, having conversations in your head and no-one calling you crazy. Creating people, situations, storylines and then discovering them as they play out. Finishing something and knowing you've made something that will exist long after you're gone, even if no-one reads it.

My next book coming out in autumn is called Without You To Hold. I got the idea when my editor at the time sent an email asking for a Christmas novel. I started to think about how Christmas is a time when everything is magnified. All the problems you have with your family, issues with a partner, everything is suddenly huge! And yet, on the other hand, it's all about joy and goodwill and presents and excitement. I wanted to write about a crazy family at Christmas, with lots of drama and bittersweet moments, and a good love story! The idea appeared pretty much fully formed and I've loved writing it!

I'm editing my novel that's due out at Christmas, called Without You To Hold. It's a really lovely story about going back home for the holidays and all the ridiculous things that can happen. I'm really excited about it! Then when those final edits are done I"m back to working on The Young and Bitter Club, which has gone through a bit of an overhaul!

Don't stop! I know so many talented writers who start a brilliant idea, and then get caught up in whether it's original enough, whether it's got too many adverbs, whether the main character is actually a bitch. Self-doubt is the devil when it comes to getting a piece of work out there. Write the thing down, like it's possessing you, and then stick it in a box for a few weeks, and THEN revisit it.
Also, if you want to be a writer, be a writer. By which I mean you should be writing more than you're talking about writing.
