Hi, Emma is a character in the Earls of Mercia series. She has quite a big role in the series.

Sorry, just seen this. I do want to write more. I just need to find the delightful quirky hook. 😂

I don't think it was this year. I have read Argo too. I think the other book was about the women. Ummmm. I'll have to see if I can find it.
It was The Daughters of Sparta. I read it in 2021:)

Hi Jan. Thanks for your question and sorry for the confusion. They're almost the same book but The Earl of Mercia's Father is the second edition and my preferred one. A publisher has the rights to the ebook as Viking Sword. I have the paperback rights as The Earl of Mercia's Father. You will get the same main story but the editing is much better in the paperback.
I hope you enjoy the series whichever one you start with.

Bless you. Pleased that Coelwulf is helping you, and look after yourself. It's been a strange time and will continue to be for the foreseeable future. And yes, nothing wrong with having a crush on him. But, keep it to yourself. I don't think he'd know how to respond if you told him. 😊

Anne of Green Gables and Gilbert Blythe - while my memories of the books (which I reread not that long ago) have become mingled with the 1980's TV series, I still think the pair of them are worthy of the accolade.

So glad they finally arrived! I can't believe quite how long they've taken in the post, but thank goodness they've arrived safely. I hope you enjoy and thanks for sticking with me!

Hi Eileen, So sorry you didn't receive it. I must have had a moment as I know the other winner received theirs. I'll get one in the post after Christmas. Thanks for getting in touch. It does mean you'll get the most up to date version with the additional chapters. Take care

Northman Part 1 is just about finished, and then I'm also working on Brunanburh, and of course, Dragon of Unison Book 6, Silver.

I immerse myself in someone else's creativity - a film, music or another book. Then I feel inspired because I know I can do it too!

The Earls of Mercia series stems from research I've done for MA in History. I read a book on the earls, and then did quite a bit more research. Then I read a book on the Godwins (Harold, the King killed at Hastings was a Godwin) and felt that the balance of power needed readdressing, and so, the Earls of Mercia was born. So far I've covered the years 996-1013. I plan on going up to 1071!

When I'm not trying to write to a deadline, I have 'writing days' - Friday is a given, but there's also two other days of the week that I can write. Its important to have the routine. All week I develop my plot in my head, or research, and then on my 'writing days' the words (hopefully) just pour out.
If I have a deadline (self-imposed but again, really important) then I'll write whenever I get the chance.

One book just isn't enough! Ever. If you write one book, then well done, but get on with the sequel. In fact write two books and then publish them. There's little point in hooking your readers if you can't reward them with more books.

Writing what you want to read! That's one of my main driving forces with my characters. Some authors are just plain mean to their characters (well to the ones I engage with the most - need I mention the long saga of Richard and Kahlan in Terry Goodkind's series) and I want the power in my own hands. (That sounds a bit scary - apologies).
