Usually, if I’m blocked, it’s one of two things. I’m tired, in which case the answer is to let me and the project rest for a day or two. Or, I’m not considering the point of view/motivations of one or more of the characters, in which case the answer is to think through the scene from everybody’s point of view, including the cat’s, and make sure I do in fact know what’s really happening here.

Lord Byron was such an outsized figure in Regency life and legend, I knew I’d have to have Rosalind intersect with his story sooner or later. But he never actually appears. This one is about his most infamous lover, Lady Caroline Lamb, the one who famously warned the world that this man was “mad, bad and dangerous to know.” Of course, people said the same thing about her.
