I wait it out. I don't have a lot of time to write and what I have found is that when I can't get an idea out it is really more that it needs to cook a bit longer. I back off for a few days and then try again and it usually flows from there. I think my approach would be different if I could focus more time on writing.

I love telling stories, and I love when the characters come to life in my mind and survive that transition to the page.

I am now working on a short story titled "47 Seconds". It is based on this passage in Connect: "Mern had heard a story once about a Mech that drove around a set of buildings. It followed the same exact path, at the same speed, day and night. Local scrappers would try and time it and get into and out of the buildings between the rounds of the Mech. Some did and came out with various things from the buildings that came from Before. Many more did not make it and ended up as dark stains on the smooth stone around the building. "
It is set in the world of After but is stand alone and not really related to the stories in Connect or Contact.

Music Mostly. I have been getting stuck on certain artist's and songs. "So Cold" by Breaking Benjamin, particularly the acoustic version was on a loop through a lot of writing of Contact, The Mason Chronicles Part 1. I am finding that I cannot turn off Evanescence as I wrote Connect, The Mason Chronicles Part 2.

The Idea of one man, Mason, guided by something beyond his understanding and leading him to fight the tide of downfall in different ways came from everywhere and nowhere all at once. The idea of that relentless and persistent hero, or anti hero, has always appealed to me. The kind whose work is never done and who never sits back and enjoys success. There is always more to do, and each step forward could mean a few steps back. That appealed to me and the rest of the idea of the story grew around that.
