Brian Lageose The freedom to create your own worlds. I'm not talking about sci-fi, and I certainly don't mean any disrespect to those who pursue that genre. I like being able to take bits and pieces of my own life, and the glimmers of what I see in other lives, and manipulate those elements into a different perception, one that involves what maybe should have been and not what actually happened. We are all messy creatures, lumbering along and often failing, as humans do. As a writer, I like to pick up the debris, turn it around to get a different perspective, soften the rougher edges with a splash of whimsy, and then realign those building blocks into a structure that we hadn't considered before but perhaps we should have...
Brian Lageose Basically, I have what you might call Conditional Writer's Block. ("CWB", let's make that a hashtag on Twitter, shall we?) I may hit a mental roadblock with the specific project currently glowing on my laptop, but I can't stand just sitting there and not being productive while my mind short-circuits on a chapter transition, so I just close that file and open another one. I always have multiple writing projects going at the same time. In the grand scheme of things, this means it takes me a bit longer to finish any particular work, but at least I rarely have that down time where I accomplish nothing. There's always something I have to say, I may just have to switch vehicles during the ride.
