Write anyway. Most of the time, I have writer's block because I've got too many trains of thought competing for my attention and life in writing. When that happens, I write them down as ideas to write about.
Once I get them written down, then I can see in black and white which, if any, I want to pursue, and I have the free space in my mind to pursue it/them.

The best thing about being a writer for me is that it gives me the time to think through things and give a cogent response/analysis/description/review. I'm an introvert's introvert, so I don't process things on the spot, and often my verbal responses, unless the topic is something I know like the back of my hand, either aren't there or are stupid.
Writing gives me the opportunity to combat my own verbal inadequacies.

Write about what you hold closest and dearest to your heart. If you don't believe it and are not passionate about it, no one else will be either.
Dare to speak the truth, even if no one listens. Truth doesn't become untruth just because no one wants to hear it.
Read a lot, but read quality (things that will grow your mind and also teach you about the craft of writing). Don't fill your mind with garbage (and there's a lot of it), because garbage in means garbage out.
Write every day, even if it's lousy. Make that a habit that you do the rest of your life.

A new leadership book (and blogging every day on one of my five blogs) entitled "The Challenging Cast of Characters We Will Have On Every Team We Lead in Life: How Quintessential Leaders Use Self-Control and Self-Discipline to Deal With Them"

I think all the time about a lot of things and that generates the writing process in my mind (which is always where I flesh out the framework of anything I write before I ever hit the keyboard).
Inspiration is overrated, in my opinion. I write because I think. Some days the ideas flow more easily than others, but writing itself takes a lot of discipline and sometimes just sheer willpower to do it consistently.

I ran a series of posts on the practical application of quintessential leadership on my business website - http://quintessentialldr.com - and, in the process, developed the idea (and some of the concepts) for this book.
