Do what works for you. If you love outlines, go for it. If outlines don't work for you, write by the seats of your pants. Don't let anyone tell you that you HAVE to write a certain way. That's crazy. I spent years not writing because I thought I HAD to write outlines and I hated them. What a waste!

I take a shower. Showers are the key to unlocking the squirrely plot points of my novels. I have had my best ideas in the shower and right before falling asleep. Showers are a better place to get ideas because I can get out and write them down. Before sleep is precarious because I don't always have the energy to write it down. I always think, "I'll remember this amazing idea in the morning!" and then never do. Lol. Now I pick up my phone and put those ideas in Evernote. It's safer.
