Thank you Rhuddem, I do remember and am so glad you enjoyed Alien Rain - as an author that's just the best thing in the world to hear :) I have written two other YA books: The Comet and the Thief and (much longer ago) Playing Twm, which were published by Gomer but now distributed by Y Lolfa. Very best wishes, diolch yn fawr.

Ah! I am halfway through the sequel and thoroughly enjoying myself, discovering through the writing process what happens next for Bree. She's desperate to return to Mars but her life has become complicated by an unexpected romantic entanglement and events are about to kick off big time. Not sure how or if I'm going to be able to get her out of this one! I hope I have the opportunity to share this new story with you before too long because I'm rather excited about it. Best wishes Mitch and thanks for your question, which I find encouraging x

Many thanks for your appreciative comment. I loved writing 'Alien Rain' and became very attached to the main character, Bree, who has big self esteem issues at the beginning. I hope your year six pupils will enjoy the book :)

For me it's the actual writing and idea-shaping process, especially when I'm immersed in writing a longer story. I'm not one of these writers who has it all meticulously plotted out beforehand (although I have a definite sense of where the story is headed) and very often I fall asleep at night trying to decide what's going to happen to my main character next. I also daydream about what might happen - what I'm going to make happen - when there's not much going on in real life. It's a really pleasurable state to be in - almost like having an alternative existence.

I've only really experienced this when I've been between writing projects, so I always try to set up the next project before the current one ends and for the past twenty years I've been kept very busy, so can't complain! In my mind, beginning a new story is like mining: you have to believe there are gems below the surface you can't see yet but you have a definite sense that they're there and they're worth digging for. I have to feel interested enough in an idea to want to explore it but once I feel that interest, that pull, I start digging and even if I hit an obstacle, it doesn't deter me if I still feel the pull. What this looks like in reality is me, sitting in a chair, notebook in hand, asking myself questions. What would this character do under these circumstances? What could happen next?

The final edit of my next YA novel: Alien Rain to be published by Firefly in the Spring - I am HUGELY excited. Also English language learning materials for a publisher in Latin America, which is a very interesting project.
