M. Larose He was everything she'd been dreaming of. But her dreams were always nightmares.
M. Larose My mind likes to wander and imagine. Sometimes it feels as though ideas are suddenly gifted to me, out of the blue, which is amazing when it happens. Other times, it's a struggle to imagine what will happen next, but certain ideas have a haunting quality that makes them linger and grow in my psyche.
M. Larose I'm writing the sequel to The Flower Eater. I also have an idea for another fantasy novel, that features a different world and characters, which I'm outlining. Lastly, I recently wrote a short story which is not in the fantasy genre, which I hope to publish somewhere this year (haven't sent it out yet).
M. Larose Just keep trying, and write something that appeals to you (rather than hoping to please some unknown audience).
M. Larose I go back and re-read the last section I wrote, and edit that. This usually helps me re-enter the story enough that I'll end up writing more new material. Even if I don't write much that's new, I will have improved what was already set down, so I've accomplished something. This feels better than writing nothing and reduces the anxiety. Sometimes I surprise myself and write much more than I expected to.
M. Larose The idea for The Flower Eater came to me in pieces, over many years. The title actually came to me first, and stayed with me until I finally began to write the story about six years later. Currently, I'm writing the sequel to The Flower Eater. I'd never planned to write a sequel and used to dislike sequels, so its ironic to me that I'm now writing one! But The Flower Eater does stand alone and have an ending that completes the story -- however, so many questions are raised in this story, that it felt like a sequel was swirling around in my mind when I finished. So, I'm working on a sequel to address those questions -- and because I like the characters so much I want to "flesh them out" further.
