Lisa A. Kramer That's such a good question, and again I don't have a specific answer. If I love a book world, I wold go there in a second. Any book world. I would study magic at Hogwarts. I would help care for magical creatures in Fablehaven. I would make astute observations about people at Pemberley, while having tea with Elizabeth Bennett. I would stay at Damselfly Inn in the imagined town of Thornton, VT (from a series of romances by Cameron Garriepy). And, of course, I'd be working writing along side the women and men of P.O.W. to change the world in New North (from my own book P.O.W.ER). If a book draws me into the world, any kind of book, I want to be there meeting the characters and sharing the adventures, tasting the food, experiencing worlds unknown. That is part of the appeal of reading (and writing) for me.
Lisa A. Kramer I have a pile of books by my bed, but I don't really make summer reading lists, as I tend to read whatever sounds interesting at any given moment. Over the summer, I will often read several books that require a slower read, and several lighter ones. It just depends on my mood.
Lisa A. Kramer I'm too new to feel like I have words of wisdom but I will try. I don't think there are any easy answers out there for aspiring writers or artists of any kind. There is definitely no easy way to become rich and famous. For any art you do, it's a choice to commit to doing the work and practicing your craft without focusing on some kind of material gain, because if you focus on that I find you accomplish less. Do it because you love it, not because you want to be rich and famous.
Lisa A. Kramer Today is Nov. 1st, the beginning of National Novel Writing Month. I did it for the first time last year (and I am finessing and editing that novel at the moment). But I also plan on doing it again this year, working on a story that has been a long time building. I think I just need to sit down and write and swee what happens.
Lisa A. Kramer Inspiration hits me when I least expect it. I am not always a disciplined writer, unless I am in the middle of a project. But, I am inspired to write whenever my ideas become too much for my head, and swirl around in my head demanding expression of some sort. For me, that expression comes in many forms, but most often the written word.
Lisa A. Kramer I'm not sure I can clearly answer this. The idea for P.O.W.ER came from many sources: my love and fascination with magic; the growing "war on women" which seems to want to strip powers and freedom from women; the story of Malala Yousafzi which just made me aware of how different this world could be if all women were allowed an education; and a book called THE FEMALE BRAIN by Louanne Brizendine, M.D. which made me ask "What if male and female brains are different, and female brains have more abilities?"
