Stanley Michael Hurd Dear Sandi,

I do apologise for the inconvenience. I was confused, however, as the first edition was taken down several years ago when Vol III was released; I checked Amazon UK, and the Kindle edition shows the proper version (the cover says "Second Edition" at the bottom). Do you see that when you look on Amazon?
Stanley Michael Hurd The only mystery in my life is why I'm compelled to keep writing. I have a perfectly nice thing going--why do I mess it up by agonizing over just the right phrase to say something others have said a hundred times? Curious, but there it is: I look forward to writing each day, and miss it if I can't.

Is it nothing more than egotism? Honestly, I don't think so. I just like the stories that come out. I'm not a plotter, or an outline writer--I let the story take me where it wants, and I love when it surprises me with a new direction. It really is better than reading.

So there it is: my mystery revealed. I apologize for such a weak denouement. :-)

Stanley Michael Hurd Hi Sheila! My roommate in college had a book of short stories about Lord Peter, and I have always been a voracious mystery reader. I was hooked immediately. Sayers wrote the most intelligent, witty mysteries ever. And, over the course of five novels (I think), she created the love affair between Peter and Harriet in a fashion I think even Austen would have admired.
Stanley Michael Hurd To read about, Lord Peter and Lady Harriet Wimsey. To be in their shoes, Darcy and Elizabeth.
Stanley Michael Hurd Dear Laurann,

Thank you so much: I love hearing that people enjoyed my books. I will post the argument on my GR blog now, as I had written it up once for one of those Janeite arguments on a site dedicated to Ausen. I have a bunch of notes on the rest of the year so I could make sure my dates synced up as well as possible with the original, but I have to put them in order before they would make sense. I’ll try to get that up on my blog sometime soon.

Thanks again,

Stan

Stanley Michael Hurd Dear Qnpoohbear,

I disliked Lady Susan from the first time I read her, although I get the impression JA rather enjoyed writing her, and I wanted to take a shot at her. As for her being obvious, in my life I have missed things much more obvious than how I portrayed her, so I gave Darcy credit for being sharper than I am. Others have made the same comment where Miss Bingley was concerned, but there, too, I wrote Darcy as being no thicker about such things than I was. On your last question, I can only say my mind didn’t travel in that direction – it was never a thought. Perhaps I subconsciously believed him to be already so captivated by Elizabeth that no other would do, but, in truth, I think it just wasn’t among the possibilities I considered. Have you considered (or are you considering) taking a stab at it?

Stanley Michael Hurd Hi Georgianne,

No, it’s fine! As an indie publisher I know nothing about different kinds of marketing, and so I set two releases through different ways of spreading the word as an experiment.

I hope you enjoy it!

Best,

Stan
