Thank you for the question. Blame April, she is the cruelest month after all. The first book was written as a personal challenge for national poetry month which is in April. I felt I was not writing often enough and so set the challenge to write everyday. When the month ended not only did I have thirty complete poems of a quality that surprised me I also discovered to my delight that there were thematic elements and an ebb and flow of ideas that emerged from each days circumstance and mood. Some days the poem took over and wrote itself. Other days they were dragged painfully from my head much like Zeus giving birth to Athena. This in turn compelled me to try again in a different month to see if the seasons also were a factor. From there I just counted. Four seasons, three months to each season, starting in April; July, October and January naturally emerge. July is almost done being written. I have five more days to compose. Then the goal is to complete the series next January.

Write everyday inspired or not. If you get stuck just keep writing something anything. Do not worry about it sucking. Only you have to see it. It all comes down to practice and perseverance.
Once you have a chapter or a few poems or a story, connect with other writers and share. Writing groups give perspective and can really help especially if you are just starting out. Most people make the same mistakes and a writers group will help you identify and fix them. Above all keep writing. If you keep at it at some point you will want to get published. There is so much to accomplishing that in today's market I could write a book about it. Hmmmmm...

The ecstasy of finishing, everything else is prolonged agony.

For this Song series of books I cannot afford writers block. Part of the challenge is I have to finish a poem a day for the whole month. Some days it takes longer than I would like to get going but that is where discipline and experience come in. Poems are everywhere you look. I pick an object or a feeling or a color whether I want to write about it or not then I write and fuss and work until it feels finished.

July Song which is the next book in the series. I write one poem a day for the whole month. At the time of this writing I only have twenty nine more poems to go

Inspiration is over rated. If I waited for it I would never write anything. I just write down the first thing that falls out of my head and go from there.

This book is the second in a series of four planned books. One for each season of the year. Spring and Fall are finished. They consist of a poem a day for each day of the month in the title.
