Shradhdha. S Why Everyone Should Watch High-Drama Medical Shows
After 17 years of Grey's Anatomy, a decade of House MD, a few seasons of New Amsterdam and 2 episodes of The Good Doctor, this is my recommendation for anyone who thinks that lady doctors walk in 4 inch stilettos everyday.

1.
Doctors spend a lot of time on learning how to ask for their own needs.

It's not easy.

2.
More teens find themselves calling a doctor after midnight when they feel like life getting too much for them. The pills, the overdose, a slit marks - are never too far.

We answer these calls every single time.

3.
We've grown used to repeating this sentence -

"Don't use a permanent solution for a temporary problem."

We worry.
We call back.
We maintain confidentiality and still make sure the support arrives.

It's not easy.

Shradhdha. S Today, the best thing about writing was an article for and about the Freagles of Bangalore. They're a mad bunch of 343 beagles that were bred, born and reared for animal testing in laboratories that extend across the country.

The Government of India passed laws that solicited a nation-wide ban on animal testing in 2013.

The rescue operations began with Team-CUPA (Compassion Unlimited Plus Action) in Banglore, but soon enough there were more beagles than there were volunteers. After the first hundred odd cases rescues and rehab-successes, the smaller wing of animal-lovers created the Beagle-Brigade aka the Freagles of India. This group of voluntary goodwill elves rescue, rehabilitate and re-home each Freagle, young, old, innocent and otherwise.

Their Instagram tags shout out optimism, openness - there is a no-sob-story theme to their posts.

Some beagles have deep neurological problems like dyskinesia (#DharmaAndGreg) and phobias. Others have less intense problems like dryness of skin, eyes or mucous membranes. Behaviourally, they are more withdrawn than the average dog and need a re-wiring of their beagle-ness with their new family and/or trainer. Most of their problems can be simplified into smaller issues and then into even smaller ones, until they disappear completely. The pace of recovery is proportionate to the size of the handler's heart!

I was ecstatic when I read (earlier this week) that only 5 Freagles of the original 343 remain to be re-homed!

In a short article drafted months before this milestone, I once more found myself scribbling comparisons between recovery-stories of human rescues and the rehabilitation of the Freagles.

Trafficking of children and that of animals validates less evolved impulses within us - reaching out to them helps us live and be more connected beings.

Shradhdha. S The greater the trust in the writer within, the simpler it is to work with the infamous 'block' - I believe it is an indication that rest and restoration are in order!

Shradhdha. S "The most recent book" would be the second edition of "The Stone & the Shadow", released initially on March 19th 2012. It is moving that the deepest impact of the first edition has been within the magical walls of paediatric departments and the waiting rooms attached to them. I was advised by a certain little reader that the book 'needs PICTURES!' - I've taken this suggestion to heart. I hope the second edition brings Stone and Star to 'recoverers' and their families in a very special way.
Shradhdha. S I've been very fortunate in the experiences that have come my way, especially in a setting where I work with children everyday. Each child creates drawings, poems and doodles while they tell their story, while I note these carefully in my medical files. At the moment, I'm working on anthology of stories related to each drawing, doodle and poem. These stories are wonderful fillers between patients - each takes up to fifteen to thirty minutes of my day. Some are semi-autobiographical while others are fictional. However, the doctor that lives within each child remains real.
