Hey Greg, great to hear from you. Glad you liked Echoes of the Past. It was a book that came from the heart. It means a lot to know it was enjoyed. Thanks a mil. Kind of wrapped up the open space left by the trilogy in that the tale came to a modern conclusion without losing the Old West voice. (At least that was the goal.) I appreciate you taking part in the ride. Writing has always been a passion and I'm happy to have found the time to pursue the dream. Unfortunately, time seems to have deserted me with health issues changing the game. Brain surgery ain't no joke. Thank God and modern medicine it has been successful. Overall, I'm ok. But at this point writing is not possible. Thank the Lord I was able to finish the fourth book just in time. Your support will not be forgotten and good luck to you. Reach out anytime you want. It has been my pleasure. God Bless!

Thanks for the question. Glad you asked. I haven't talked much about it but I just finished my fourth novel. It centers on the life of a current day Texas rancher that is a descendant of the Hard Land to Rule characters. The times have changed but the land still defines the men that make their living from the hills. Tried to continue telling the story from the same voice that started in the trilogy. Early beta readers have liked it so far. Just started the editing process and that will take some time for rewrites and corrections. I appreciate your interest and look forward to getting the story published.

I have not read this story but I've seen references to their ordeal many times. Early in my life I read "The Last Captive" by A. C. Greene and it opened my eyes to the reality of life on the Texas frontier. It's the tale of Herman Lehmann and his capture by Indians and his gradual immersion into their culture that became so strong he was one of the last Comanche to surrender to the reservation life. He goes on to live a life split in time with his Indian family in Oklahoma and his blood relatives that lived outside Fredericksburg. It's a fascinating tale. I put "The Boy Captives" on my to read list and I think you'd enjoy reading "The Last Captive."

Yes it is. I was surprised to realize that familiar voice was attached to such a good book. He's a talented author and he weaves a story with characters that I was sorry to say goodbye to. Hope you get the chance to enjoy the read.

Hello, Chris. Let me start with thanks for your interest in my work. I'm honored to be on your list of books to read and sincerely hope you enjoy the journey through the Texas Hill Country. Elmer Kelton is at the top of my list for Western authors. His book, "The Day the Cowboys Quit" is my favorite work of his. Any of his award winning books have been a pleasure to read. "Lonesome Dove" by McMurtry is also one of my all time favorite reads. Enjoy!

Sorry, but I'm not that familiar with his story. Checked him out on Wikipedia @ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_B.... Interesting story. Thanks for asking.

"The Last Captive" by A. C. Greene was the first book I read about the treatment of children captured by Indians. The book centers on Herman Lehmann captured in the Hill Country of Texas. It was a sobering tale of the harshness of the Native American lifestyle while also a eye opening look at the intoxicating sense of adventure and freedom that seduced a lot of the captured children. Many never wanted to return to the drudgery and work load of their former existence.

As a child I grew up hearing about an Indian raid on my great-great grandfather's homestead west of Austin. He was a well known Texas Ranger and sergeant in the Civil War. The tale always fascinated me and I set out to write a fictionalized short story about the event unaware of where the decision would lead. After receiving early praise, the short story transformed into a full length novel that needed room to grow. As a result, the decision to write a short story became a life changing moment that gave birth to the Hard Land to Rule Trilogy.
