Alex E. Carey Hi Christian, First I must apologize for taking so long to reply. I've been working hard on my third novel in my book series. I am nearly ready for editing - finally, past my deadline, but ready anyway. :)

On to your question - I checked out your books and I'm not sure how to answer. One thing I did notice is that on your Goodreads page for She: Unusually Brave, the Amazon link doesn't work. So perhaps people have a hard time finding it? I did find it by searching at Amazon.

The subject matter is possibly, like you said, a bit heavier for some people's taste. They might not make it past the description, so maybe it needs to have something to draw them in. I'm not sure what to suggest though.

For reviews, I'd suggest being involved in the groups here at Goodreads, find people who might review your book's category or genre, and to connect with readers who are fans of your genre. You could sponsor a giveaway. I recently did a giveaway of five copies of Earth's Embrace. That's helped me quite a bit. Other than that, I try to stay active on social media - Facebook, Twitter, etc.

I'll try to come up with some more ideas for you and will let you know if I think of something. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask. I'm always happy to help another author if I can. :)

Kind regards,

Alex
Alex E. Carey If I ever figure out a definite answer to this question, I'll let you know. For me, stories just pop in my head and I have to write them down. Letting your mind relax, doing something fun, imagining yourself in a story or situation are all things that help me.
Alex E. Carey Write! Just do it! Don't let anyone tell you that you can't, shouldn't or discourage you in any way. Marsha Sinetar said, "Do what you love and the money will follow." Steve Jobs said, "The only way to do great work is to love what you do." Carrying those principles to my writing, I write for me, because I love it, and I had stories inside that just had to get out. I wrote bits and pieces here and there, on breaks and such. The next thing I knew, I had enough for a book and I decided I wanted to share my stories with others. Self-publishing has opened up many avenues to authors who might not have been published before. You have every reason to go for it, and nothing to hold you back.
Alex E. Carey You can work in your pj's. Okay, maybe not that, but it's on the list. One of the nice things is being your own boss, but that can also be your curse. You can work at times that you feel the most creative, but you also have to be disciplined. The thing I like the best, though, is being able to create and use my imagination. Creating characters is a fun part of writing, imagining what they are like, who they are, what they feel. They become almost like friends. When you finish writing for the day, you tell them good night, and know they'll be there waiting for you when you return.
Alex E. Carey I find it helps to keep my body busy. I recently took some vacation time from work (my "day job"), intending to work steadily on my new book and make huge progress. I sat down to write and found my mind was often blocked. The next week I went back to work. Walking around, tending to my duties, the thoughts and ideas started to overflow in my head. So my suggestion, is get out of your house or office, dance, walk, enjoy nature. Occupy your body and give your mind some space to roam.
Alex E. Carey I am working on the third book in the Elemental Series - Water's Reflection. It should be released later this year in 2015. I am also working on bits and pieces for a new novel/series.
Alex E. Carey Kira’s story came to me during my freshman year while waiting for class to start. I began to scribble and the next thing I knew I had the beginnings of a story. I continued to imagine what would happen next and wrote bits and pieces in between classes and during work breaks. Once I typed up all the notes, I realized I had enough for a full novel, and ideas for more, resulting in the Elemental Series.
