I listen to music. I ask my friends to remember when . . . and I listen to their stories. I observe all the details of nature. I sit beside the water in the morning drinking a cup of coffee and thank God for his blessings.

Go for it! Surround yourself with positive people --- those who support you. Avoid negative people --- those who think you are crazy to try and get published. Well, that is, unless you plan to use one of them as a character in one of your books. Then, they might just be able to help you out!

There are so many great things about being a writer I can't possibly say what the one best thing is. I love how you take "nothing" and turn it into "something". Also, unlike real life, if you mess up while you are writing you can erase it and make it better. In life, when we mess up, our mistakes can't be erased. I do; however, try to learn from my mistakes so that I don't keep repeating the same ones over and over again.

I deal with writer's block by putting down what I'm working on, stepping away, then work on something else. A few times when I was writing The Slippery Slope I just couldn't find the words to keep the story going. So, I put it aside and worked on my blog which is a totally different subject matter. Another thing that has worked for me is to read. That gets my juices going most all the time.

My first novel is being edited, and I just started drafting my next novel. So I guess I'd say I'm currently working on two projects. Finishing one, and starting another. The first is a romantic/suspense. I "think" the book I just started on is going to be a drama. Sometimes they take on a life of their own though.

The idea for my book, The Slippery Slope, came to me in my early twenties. The summer after I graduated high school my fiance was killed in a work-related accident. I had dreamed of writing a book since I was a young teenager but had not pursued my dream. When my boyfriend died my dreams died with him. I eventually got married and had a child. I tried to write the book and didn't really know what I was doing so I put it in a folder and filed it away. When I made the decision to retire at a young age, my plan was and still is to write. So, I dusted off the folder and pulled out the old story and decided to make that dream I once had a reality. It's a love story, sprinkled with just a bit of my own love story. But, it is most definitely not even remotely like my life. I simply love the way it ends.
