La idea vino de una muy buena amiga mía que me contó el año pasado las vicisitudes por las que había pasado para iniciar su empresa y que en una reunión me hizo algunas preguntas sobre mi experiencia como emprendedora y me pidió consejo sobre algunas dudas que aún tenía sobre su emprendimiento. Entonces me dije, ¿por qué no escribir un libro al respecto, compartiendo mis conocimientos y experiencia sobre el tema de crear empresas? Y bueno, estoy trabajando en el borrador actualmente y espero hacer el lanzamiento del libro este diciembre de 2017, Dios mediante.

The idea came from a very good friend of mine who told me last year about the vicissitudes she faced to start her company. During a party, she asked me some questions about my experience as an entrepreneur and she came to me for advice about some doubts she still had about her startup. So, I asked myself.. why not write a book about it, sharing my knowledge and experience on the subject of creating companies? And just like that, I started working on the draft and I hope to launch the book - under a different pen name - this December 2017, God willing.

Quisiera decir que tengo una rutina mágica o un lugar especial para escribir, que medito previamente escuchando el sonido de las olas, bajo la luz de las velas, mientras repito un mantra para inspirarme, porque la verdad suena muy cool, ja ja. Pero no es así. Hasta hace no mucho tiempo atrás, necesitaba que hubiese silencio para poder concentrarme y escribía solamente en el PC del estudio de mi casa por las noches, o si estaba de viaje en mi laptop en la habitación del hotel y sólo cuando no me sentía cansada (lo cual admitámoslo, eran pocas veces). No obstante, este año he trabajado mucho en desarrollar el hábito de escribir al menos 1 hora diaria entre semana y al menos 2 horas diarias los fines de semana, todos los días, con bulla o sin ella, en mi casa, en el trabajo, en la sala de espera, en mi laptop, teléfono o tablet, no importa el dispositivo o lugar, el objetivo es escribir a diario. Si un día no dispongo de tiempo o estoy agotada, me hago el propósito de escribir uno o dos párrafos, lo cual me toma apenas 5 minutos, pero mantengo mi promesa de escribir a diario. ¿Qué me motiva? El sueño de escribir un libro que se convierta en bestseller del NY Times. Y cuando lo alcance, ya se me ocurrirá alguna otra buena razón ;-)

I would like to say that I have a magic routine or a special place to write, that I meditate listening to the sound of the ocean, under candlelight, while I repeat a mantra to inspire me, because - admit it - it sounds pretty cool! But, it's not like that at all. When I first started to write I needed silence so I could concentrate and in those days I used to write only in my home studio at night, or if I was traveling in the hotel room, and only when I did not feel tired (which I must admit, was not quite often). However, this year I have worked hard to develop the habit of writing at least 1 hour a day from Monday to Friday and at least 2 hours a day on the weekends, every day, with or without noise, at home, at work, in the waiting room, on my laptop, phone or tablet, no matter the device or place, the goal is to write daily. If one day I do not have the time or I'm exhausted, I force myself to write one or two paragraphs, which takes me just 5 minutes, but I keep my promise to write every day. What motivates me? The dream of writing a book that will become a NY Times bestseller. And when I get that, I will think of another powerful reason ;-)

En este momento estoy escribiendo el borrador de dos libros, un tercer libro en mi serie sobre "Cómo hackear" y otro en una nueva línea sobre emprendimiento, bajo un nuevo pseudónimo, acerca de cómo iniciar un negocio desde cero.

RESPUESTA EN ESPAÑOL:
Mi consejo para los aspirantes a escritores es no escuchar a quienes les dicen que no pueden serlo, que nadie va a leer lo que escriben o que sus libros no van a gustar. Es posible que esas palabras provengan de amigos o familiares cercanos y que sus intenciones no sean malas, sino que en su mentalidad negativa crean que los están ayudando a evitarse un dolor o un fracaso. Yo les digo: no les hagan caso! Denles las gracias por sus buenas intenciones, dense la vuelta y pónganse a escribir! La definición de éxito depende de cada persona. Si su definición de éxito es "quiero publicar un bestseller", pues entonces se requerirá escribir sobre un tema que le apasione a uno, pero que además le resulte interesante al público objetivo y por supuesto presentar un contenido ordenado y de calidad que le guste a los lectores y eso requerirá aprender previamente algo sobre técnicas de escritura y marketing. Pero si su definición de éxito es "quiero escribir un libro", aunque ese libro no lo publique y sea sólo para usted, pues qué espera para hacerlo? Nadie tiene la vida comprada, no desperdicie su tiempo tratando de complacer a otros, viva la vida que usted quiere y sea feliz haciendo lo que le gusta.

My advice to aspiring authors is not to listen to those who tell them that they cannot be writers, that no one is going to read what they write, or that their books will not sell. It is possible that those words come from friends or close relatives, and that their intentions are not bad, but in their negative mentality, they believe that they are helping you to avoid pain or failure. So, I tell you: do not listen to them! Thank them for their good intentions, turn around and start writing! The definition of success depends on each person. If your definition of success is "I want to publish a bestseller", then it will be necessary to write about a topic that appeals to you, but also that is interesting to the target audience and of course, to present an orderly, good quality content, that appeals to the readers. The last will require learning beforehand something about writing and marketing techniques. But, if your definition of success is "I want to write a book", even if that book does not get published and is only for your eyes... then, what are you waiting for? Nobody has the life bought, do not waste your time trying to please others, live the life you want and be happy doing what you like on your own terms.

Lo mejor de ser una autora es poder escribir sobre tópicos que me apasionan, compartir mi experiencia y serle útil a los demás. Se siente fantástico cuando un lector me escribe a decirme que le gustó uno de mis libros o que algo que escribí le resultó de utilidad en su trabajo o en su vida personal.
The best thing about being an author is to write about topics I'm passionate about, share my experience and be useful to others. It feels really great when someone writes me and tells me that he enjoyed one of my books or that something I wrote helped him at work or in his personal life.

Cuando me bloqueo, lo que hago es leer lo que escribí en los días previos y eventualmente cambio algo, corrijo tildes, comas, edición en otras palabras. Y cuando menos me doy cuenta, estoy agregando algo a una sección o escribiendo una sección nueva y voilà! Se fue el bloqueo!
When I notice that I've been looking at a blank page for too long without writing a thing, what I usually do is editing my previous work. I go through chapters looking for mistakes, typos, changing sentences, adding paragraphs... and after a couple of minutes, I find myself writing new stuff again.
