I find that it doesn't help to sit and stare at the screen/page, its best to leave it and walk away if it gets really bad. Do some gardening or a chore and let your mind wander and inspiration may come. Alternatively you could read over what you've already written and another idea might be triggered, or you may find you've omitted something vital or perhaps a story line feels unfinished and further description or detail is needed.

I love having that time to myself, when I am alone with my thoughts and emotions. I can flesh out my characters and escape to another time and place, they almost become real to me, like friends. I am always sad to say goodbye once the book is finished but as I write that last line and it's so good it makes you weep with pleasure, then it's all worth it!

I would say, just start to write, and see what happens. It may come easy and words will flow onto the page, or it may be more difficult, but if that is the case I would say just put down words, flashes of inspiration which can occur any time, day or night, if you can just jot them down haphazardly you may be surprised when a work of art suddenly begins to take shape!

I am busy transcribing some old diaries which we found in my mother in law's attic, fascinating information is contained within them involving the early forties, the war, and the requisitioning of the family house by the War Department. Great Grandma talks about a War Department Notice being attached to their house but it has been very difficult to research these notices, it seems hardly any were kept by the Government!

I was helping to clear my mother in law's house when we discovered some ancient suitcases in the loft belonging to her mother. When we looked inside they were full of old diaries starting in 1942 - fascinating information from those war time years and definite inspiration for a new book

Just by things that happen in life, good or bad, happy or sad, or sometimes shocking events which come out of the blue. The death of someone close can have an affect on me. Its as though I want to write about that person to bring them back again and to keep them close in my thoughts, they very often become a character in one of my novels - I find it very therapeutic,
